Roots ("we", "our", or "us") is a personal family memories app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

Information We Collect

When you use Roots, we collect the following information that you voluntarily provide:

Account information: Your email address and password (used to create and secure your account).
Family content: Names, birthdays, photos, audio recordings, and video memories you add for family members.
Shared space data: If you create or join a shared family space, we store the members and content you add to that space.

We do not collect your location, contacts, browsing history, or any data beyond what you explicitly add to the app.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to:

Provide and operate the Roots app for you and any family members you invite.
Sync your content across your devices.
Enable shared family spaces when you choose to invite others.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase, which provides authentication, database, and file storage services. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Firebase's own privacy practices are described at policies.google.com/privacy.

Shared Spaces

When you create a shared family space and invite members, those members can view content within that space according to the role permissions you assign. You can remove members or delete the space at any time.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account exists. You can delete individual memories, people, or your entire account at any time from within the app. Upon account deletion, all associated data is permanently removed from our servers.

Children's Privacy

Roots is designed for use by adults to preserve family memories. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or via the email associated with your account. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
